Floorshow (2000)

Works are large (1.5m x 1m), painted in black ink on the pavements of Hanoi. Where the country girls hawk turnips and sweet potatoes, where xe om (motorbike taxi) drivers slump over their livelihood, where beggars beg and eggs get laid by hens destined for pho (noodle soup).

Lines and shapes morph as I interpret every sound, smell and image as one; allowing the moment to dictate what I apply to the canvas. I am as much a part of this visual soup as the crowds gathered at my side, the smell of bun cha (barbequed pork) and the constant cacophony of motorbike horns. I include my feet in every frame.
